Heat Rash (Prickly Heat / Miliaria)

Heat rash appears as small red or pink bumps, often in skin folds (neck, armpits, diaper area, chest). Caused by blocked sweat glands when baby gets too hot.

More common in hot humid weather or when baby is overdressed. Looks like tiny pimples or blisters.

Not painful but may be mildly itchy. Clears quickly (days) once baby is cooled down. Not serious.

What to Do

  • Cool baby down immediately - remove excess layers of clothing
  • Move to cool, air-conditioned room or use fan
  • Give lukewarm bath to cool skin gently
  • Dress baby in loose, lightweight, breathable cotton clothing
  • Keep room temperature comfortable (68-72°F ideal for sleep)
  • DO NOT use thick creams, ointments, or powders - can block pores further
  • Prevent: Don't overdress baby (same layers as adults, not more!)
